Hydraulic engineering works:

  • Revetments: These are reinforcements along the edges of waterways, such as the banks of ditches, canals, and rivers. Hardwood like Azobé is often used for this purpose due to its strength and long lifespan. Jetties and docks: Hardwood is highly resistant to water, making it ideal for structures in and around water.
  • Sheet pile walls: These are vertical structures along water edges, made from hardwood like Azobé, to prevent the bank from collapsing. Azobé is popular for this application due to its durability and weather resistance.
  • Earth retention: Hardwood posts are often used to hold back soil in applications like gardens or construction projects.

Foundation and construction:

  • Foundation piles: Azobé posts are strong and are used for pile foundations in marshy or boggy ground.
  • Fencing: Due to their sturdiness, hardwood posts are also used for constructing fences and gates.
  • Bridge construction: Azobé posts are also used in bridges due to their immense strength and durability, especially in pedestrian bridges or small traffic bridges.
  • Agriculture and livestock farming: In pastures and stables, hardwood posts are used for enclosures, as they are resistant to the elements and have a long lifespan.

How to process the hardwood post 70 x 70 mm:

Saw

When sawing Azobé hardwood, use a sturdy, sharp-toothed saw, such as a hardwood saw. The dense structure of the wood can make sawing more difficult, but it will produce a neat, straight cut.

Drilling
Azobé hardwood is very hard, so it is advisable to pre-drill before using screws or nails. Use a drill bit with hardened steel to prevent splitting the wood. Make sure the drill bit is slightly smaller in diameter than the screw you are using.

Screwing
Make sure to pre-drill before screwing to prevent the material from splitting or tearing. For a neat finish, the screw head should be just below the surface of the wood.

Nailing
Hardwoods such as Azobé are less suitable for nailing without pre-drilling. If you still want to nail, pre-drill holes to prevent the wood from cracking.

Painting
Painting or varnishing Azobé hardwood is not necessary, as it is naturally weather-resistant. If you do want to paint or varnish the wood, choose a breathable outdoor stain or varnish that is suitable for hardwood. For best results, lightly sand before you begin.

Pre-treatment for in the ground
When placing the post in the ground, treat the underground part with a ground protector to further extend the lifespan. This prevents wood rot and protects against moisture and mould formation.

Installation of a hardwood garden post with a Giant Bamboo Garden Fence Panel and Stainless Steel Mounting Set

  1. Preparation: Start by measuring the desired position of the hardwood garden post. Dig a hole about one-third of the post length deep to create a solid base.
  2. Place the Post: Place the hardwood post in the hole and fill it with sand or soil to anchor the pole firmly. Check with a spirit level if the post is straight and fill the hole completely.
  3. Mounting kit: Use the stainless steel mounting kit to attach the giant bamboo garden fence panels to the hardwood post. Place the half-round stainless steel brackets around the post at the desired height.
  4. Drilling and Securing: Drill the required holes into the bamboo and hardwood post. Make sure to pre-drill first to prevent splitting. Secure the panel with the supplied tap bolts and hex nuts.
  5. Finish: For a sleek look, you can cover the hardwood post with half round bamboo poles this gives the completed natural look to your garden.

Cleaning
Regularly remove dirt and algae from the hardwood poles, especially if they are in a humid environment. This can easily be done with water and a soft brush. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents that can damage the wood.

Treat with Oil or Varnish (Optional)
Although Azobé is naturally weatherproof, you can treat the wood with a special outdoor oil or varnish to maintain the colour and provide the posts with extra protection against the weather elements. This is especially recommended if you want to prevent the natural greying of the wood.

Inspect for Cracks
Check the posts occasionally for cracks or splits. Although cracks are a natural property of hardwood, it is good to check that they do not become too large. In case of deep cracks, you can consider treating the wood with a wood filler or extra oil.

Protection in the Ground
For posts that are in the ground, it is important to use a ground protector before placing them. This will help to extend their life in humid conditions. Check annually for signs of wood rot or mould.

Sanding (Optional)
If you want to make the wood look like new again, you can lightly sand the posts to remove dirt, greying or irregularities. Then treat the wood with oil or varnish for a fresh look.

A Masterful Plant

How Strong is Bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong and durable; it is often compared to steel because of its high tensile strength. This means that bamboo can withstand great forces without breaking. This property makes it ideal for applications in construction, furniture, and other products that require robustness.
