Bamboe Bouw Nederland
In 2005, Pim van der Eng and Sandra Bonne started selling bamboo poles from their garage as a hobby.
During a holiday to the Dominican Republic we first saw bamboo poles and their beautiful appearance. Pim decided to build a bamboo canopy in his backyard and went looking for bamboo poles in the Netherlands.
There were a number of bamboo poles left over that we sold on the marketplace.
The materials appealed to us enormously, the possibilities and environmentally friendly aspects of bamboo made us fall in love with bamboo.
We decided to purchase more bamboo products and named our company Bamboo Bouw Nederland. Pim and Sandra worked on the website and prepared the orders in the evenings.
Our company in civil engineering was a success until 2010, but it no longer gave us the satisfaction, our decision was made: we will focus entirely on the sale, development and import of bamboo products.
The demand for our products continued to increase and our customer base continued to grow.
In 2012 we were asked to participate in the Floriade in Venlo. A huge challenge and investment that we wanted to make to put Bamboe Bouw Nederland on the map.
Together with the orchid growers KNOP and Bamboo Giant, we were commissioned to build Tropical Eden.
A fantastic experience to tackle this project together. With the help of family and friends, we brought this to a successful conclusion.
Our warehouse in Uitgeest soon became too small and Bamboe Bouw Nederland outgrew it.
The move to Beverwijk was initiated and we put the building at Biesland 28 into use.
The sales and development of bamboo products continued at a rapid pace, ultimately increasing our range of bamboo products to almost 400 products.
Since 2015
Bamboo Import Europe
We wanted to expand our range of bamboo products with Guadua bamboo poles, which is why Stephane Schröder from Guadua Bamboo came to the Netherlands. There was an immediate click and we had the same drive together.
We decided to jointly set up Bamboo Import Europe BV.
Together we have made Bamboo Import Europe great and we have traveled around the world looking for the right partners who are just as driven as we are. Love for the product and being good to the employees and wanting to innovate.
This has ensured that our bamboo products were of the best quality and that we were received as friends by our suppliers and partners abroad.
It has always been clear to us that everyone is part of the success and that our suppliers are an important link for our quality and product development.
Bamboo Import Europe BV grew to become the European market leader in the field of bamboo garden materials with 7000m2 of storage in Beverwijk and represented in 17 different countries.
A close-knit team that felt like family is the best description. Every customer was welcome and received with open arms.
In November 2021 we sold Bamboo Import Europe BV and said goodbye to our wonderful company. We looked forward to the future of Bamboo Import Europe BV with confidence.
Unfortunately, this turned out to be different and we made an incorrect assessment. Unfortunately, our company was not in good hands, which ultimately led to Bamboo Import Europe BV going bankrupt in January 2024. The company managed to restart at a different location, but it is no longer the same for us as former owners.
Since 2007
Guadua Bamboo
Guadua Bamboo was founded in 2007 by Stéphane Schröder in Costa Rica. When he emigrated from Belgium to Costa Rica in 2004, he started a furniture store that mainly imported antique furniture from Europe.
Stéphane was bitten by the bamboo virus a few years later when one of the then employees came to work one day with a Guadua flower vase. The good man threw the vase against a concrete floor and as it turned out,... there was no problem. Amazed by the incredibly strong material, he started researching this then unknown South American bamboo species and that's how the ball started rolling.
Today, Stéphane Schröder is known worldwide as the Guadua specialist with years of experience in the field. His company Guadua Bamboo SAS has been based in Colombia since 2013 and specializes in growing various bamboo species, establishing commercial bamboo plantations, and producing the world's strongest bamboo building materials for the international market.
Guadua Bamboo SAS works closely with local communities to halt deforestation and by organizing training courses that retrain farmers to become bamboo growers, bamboo furniture makers and constructors. The ecological and socio-economic impact of the company is now used as an example in Colombia for further national expansion.
