What are straw roofs and where do they come from?

Our straw roofs are carefully crafted from natural palm leaves sourced from Indonesia, combined with bamboo slats or sturdy palm rope. Thanks to these 100% natural materials, these straw roofs are a feast for the eyes and perfect for creating a tropical atmosphere, for example on your bamboo pergola or at a Tiki bar.

    Fastening straw roofs

The straw roofs on a stick are easy to attach using screws or tie wraps. A bamboo slat is integrated into the straw roof, which you can easily drill screws through. In this case, it is best to use our fastening screws. It is also possible to tie a tie wrap around this bamboo slat to ensure the straw roof stays firmly in place. The same applies to straw roofs in rolls, only these do not contain a bamboo slat, but rather palm rope with which the straw leaves are tied together.

How many straw roofs are needed for a tropical roof?

When you view the straw roof product on our website, you will find a calculator that advises you on the number of straw roofs you need. You will find a brief explanation below.

    Decorative tropical canopy

When you want to place the straw roofs decoratively, for example on your natural or tropical canopy, we recommend using the following quantities per square meter:

    • Approximately 3 straw roofs of 100x70 cm per square meter
    • Approximately 2 straw roofs of 200x70 cm per two square meters

Is it possible to make a waterproof roof with straw roofs?

It is possible to make a waterproof straw roof. Ensure your roof has a slope so that water does not remain on the roof. And use the quantities below per square meter with an overlap of approximately 20 cm per straw roof.

    • 5 straw roofs of 100x70 cm per m2
    • 3 straw roofs of 200x70 cm per m2

!Tip for attaching a straw roof outdoors: Attach a bamboo slat over the straw so that it cannot be blown up by the wind. In this way, you ensure that the straw cannot blow away in strong winds, allowing you to enjoy the straw roof for longer.

Do straw roofs need to be impregnated?

If the straw roofs are placed in areas where fire safety is important, it is best to impregnate the palm leaves of the straw roofs with a flame-retardant spray.

Straw roof for a beach bar

Do you want to create a tropical look at your beach bar? Our straw roofs on a stick or our straw roofs in rolls are perfect for attaching to a beach bar. Combine our straw roofs with bamboo poles and create a tropical atmosphere on the beach. In short, our straw roofs are perfect for beach bars or beach clubs.

Straw roofs as decoration at festivals

Straw roofs are very popular at festivals to create a tropical festival look. Festivals use these straw roofs as roofing for a tiki bar or festival canopy. Because these straw roofs are 100% natural, they are the perfect solution for ecologically responsible festival decoration. The combination of a bamboo pergola with straw roofs is, of course, fantastic and a real eye-catcher at a festival.
