How to easily install Bamboo decking boards!

With bamboo decking boards, you can easily create a luxurious patio yourself. Start with a stable, level surface on which you place the frame of support beams. The boards are reversible: choose the smooth or the grooved side. Thanks to the clever clip system – with start, end, and fastening clips – you connect the boards tightly together without visible screws. What is a bamboo decking board?

A bamboo decking board looks almost identical to a hardwood decking board, such as azobé. The biggest difference lies in the material, as the name suggests: bamboo. This decking board is therefore entirely made of bamboo. No composite, but truly solid bamboo!

The bamboo terrace boards from Masters of Bamboo are made from bamboo fibers obtained from a bamboo pole. The bamboo pole is processed in such a way that coarse, hair-like fibers are created, from which the sugars are extracted. Once at the right moisture level and after the right pre-treatment, these fibers are pressed and glued together to form a board. This technique is called strand woven. The terrace boards become extremely hard and have a density of 1150 kg per m³. Once processed into a board, they are made into bamboo decking boards, façade boards or beams.

The bamboo terrace boards are excellently suited for use on a roof terrace, as decking, in a conservatory or under a canopy. Additionally, they can also be used as a walkway, sun terrace or jetty.

Sustainable and ecological

What makes a bamboo decking board special and unique? It is made from grass, in fact, from one of the fastest growing plants on earth. Bamboo grows back within 1 year and is ready for harvesting when the plant is 3 years old. In other words: you can harvest the bamboo every 3 years.

During this extremely fast growth, the bamboo plant absorbs 3 to 5 times more CO₂ than the average tree and stores it. Once harvested, you don't need to remove the roots or plant a new bamboo plant. Bamboo simply grows back!

This compared to hardwood azobé (Lophira alata), which takes between 25 and 50 years to mature. Once fully grown, the tree is cut down, which is done mechanically, and the roots must be removed. After that, a new tree can be planted, which again takes years to grow back. So it's no surprise that hardwood is becoming increasingly scarce.

The lifespan for outdoor applications of a bamboo deck, terrace or façade board is between 15 and 25 years, and all that time the CO₂ remains stored in the board.

Bamboo decking board Thermo

Bamboo decking board Thermo is available in various sizes and thicknesses. The board is finished with a dark oil treatment, giving the board a dark brown color. The bamboo decking boards can be used on 2 sides, each with a different finish.

One side of the bamboo decking board has a smooth and therefore sleek finish. The other side features multiple grooves that have been milled into it, which provides more grip when walking on the bamboo decking.

At the end, the bamboo decking board features a tongue-and-groove connection to seamlessly join multiple bamboo boards when connecting them together.

Both sides of the bamboo decking boards feature a recess. These have been specially milled to firmly clamp the mounting clips into the decking board, allowing you to securely mount the decking onto the bamboo beams.

Bamboo Decking Board Nano

Just like the bamboo decking board Thermo, we also have the Nano version available in different sizes and thicknesses. The difference is mainly in the colour; with the Nano, the decking board is brown. This colour most closely resembles hardwood decking boards, and only an expert will be able to see the difference between a hardwood decking board and this bamboo decking board.

With this variant too, you can choose which side you want to use as the walking surface. The smooth or the rough side; so you can decide for yourself what you find attractive. You can choose to turn the boards over after a few years, so that you get the other side on top.

The bamboo decking board Nano features a tongue-and-groove connection on the end grain sides and is secured with mounting clips and start and end clips. To properly install the bamboo decking boards, we recommend ordering the clips, oil and bamboo beams (substructure) along with them.
