The Guadua Bamboo Pergola Calima is made from robust bamboo poles, with each upright consisting of two poles with a diameter of 9-11 cm. Thanks to its updated construction and building method, the Calima is more versatile, more stable, and significantly stronger than other bamboo pergolas. This provides a robust appearance and makes it easy to install a roof on the pergola; whether you want a waterproof roof or a decorative shade roof, anything is possible.

Our pergolas are delivered as a complete DIY kit, including a clear instruction manual, mounting hardware, and a bamboo drill bit. The Calima Pergola is available in various sizes, from 2 x 2 meters to 5 x 6 meters, allowing us to offer a suitable solution for any space.

Create a beautiful seating area attached to your house or shed, or a shaded space in your garden, on your patio, or for an event. As an additional option, you can place thatched roofs, Esterilla panels, bamboo fence rolls, or split bamboo fence rolls on the pergola to create more shade.

Tips:

  • Natural look: Guadua Bamboo stems are cut and come straight from the plantation. The colours are purely natural, so colour differences or natural spots are part of the natural look of the bamboo pergola Calima.
  • Beams and Carriers: The beams and supports of the Calima pergola are 7-9 cm thick, which gives it an elegant appearance.
  • Double posts: The double uprights of the Calima pergola are 9-11 cm thick and 300 cm long, giving you the option of placing them partly in the ground, or cutting them to size and mounting them on a deck or terrace using, for example, pole holders.
  • Gradient of the bamboo stems: Although Guadua has the least variation in diameter there is always a thick and thin side. Keep this in mind with the posts, for example, so that you place the thick side down forming the base.
  • Customisation options: Available in various sizes and easy to shorten, so you can perfectly adapt the pergola to your space.
  • Dismountable: You are able to disassemble the bamboo pergola, which means that you can easily take it apart and reassemble it. This makes it easy to move or store the pergola when needed.
  • Tropical look: The natural colours of the bamboo stems create an attractive and tropical atmosphere in your outdoor space.
  • Cracking of Bamboo: Cracks can occur in the bamboo stems and when this happens it will only be in the lengthwise direction of the bamboo stem. This often occurs on warm and dry days when the temperature or humidity changes considerably. These cracks are a natural property of the material.

User Manual for the Bamboo Pergola Calima

General Tips:

  • Assemble the pergola with at least two people.
  • Required tools: measuring tape, pencil, 13 mm wrench, hacksaw, drill.

Mounting the Pergola:

You can mount the bamboo poles of the pergola in several ways, depending on the surface and your preference:

1. On a hard surface (such as tiles, wood, or concrete):
Use our bamboo pole holder with a base plate.

  • Drill 8 mm holes in the bamboo pole that align with the holes in the pole holder.
  • Slide the pole over the pole holder and secure it with the included bolts and nuts.
  • Make sure the pole sits approximately 2 cm above the steel plate. This prevents direct contact between the bamboo and the steel, which helps prevent rot.

2. In the ground:You have two options here:

  • Directly in the ground: First, treat the part of the bamboo pole that will be underground with our special black Bamboo Ground Protector. This protects against rot and extends the lifespan. Allow the coating to dry thoroughly, then place the pole at least 60 cm deep in the ground.
  • Using a bamboo pole holder with a ground spike: This anchors the pole firmly in the ground without it having direct contact with the soil.

For both options, we recommend filling the hole around the pole or ground spike with cement for extra strength and stability.

Extra Tip:

You will need to cut the threaded rods of the pole holders to the required length yourself. This can be done easily with a hacksaw or an angle grinder (not included).

When placing the bamboo posts in the ground, we advise that you first treat the part that will go into the ground with Ground Protector.

  • Bamboo Renovator Natural: If your Guadua bamboo Pergola no longer has its original natural colour after cleaning, you can renovate it with Bamboo Renovator Natural. The yellow pigment in the varnish will give it back its original bamboo colour.
