Buying bamboo stakes that are suitable for supporting plants and trees must be of good quality. It may seem that you can use all types of bamboo stakes for this and that the choice is not that big. But make no mistake: there are more than 1500 species of bamboo in the world and not all of them are suitable as plant support.

If you are looking for the best quality bamboo stakes for professional agricultural and horticultural applications, there is really only one type that is strong, dimensionally stable and affordable, namely the Tonkin bamboo stake. We import the Tonkin bamboo stakes directly from China, where we have our own purchasing office and factory. The bamboo stakes are selected by age, thickness and geographical location to deliver the best quality.

After cutting, all bamboo stakes are sorted by thickness and crooked stakes are straightened by heating them. This way we offer a range of straight, thick-walled bamboo stakes that are sorted by 2 mm, with lengths up to over 6 meters.

What can you do with a bamboo pole?

Bamboo poles are perfect for supporting tomato plants, espalier trees and climbing plants in horticulture. Additionally, the material is suitable for constructive and decorative projects, such as insect hotels, team building constructions, tipi tents, poles for fish traps and flag poles.

The bamboo poles are fairly narrow and available up to a thickness of 32 mm. The bamboo pole is therefore quite thin, but has a thick wall, which makes the bamboo pole very strong. It is precisely the combination of a light yet strong bamboo pole that allows you to use it for anything.

Most bamboo poles are sold for agriculture and horticulture, where they serve the function of supporting or guiding plants. To optimally protect the plants, place the bamboo pole next to the plant and tie them together with binding tube. Binding tube is a soft, rubbery material that is flexible, so the plant does not get damaged during growth – the binding tube stretches along and is not sharp.

If you want to shorten bamboo poles or cut them to size, you can do this with a saw with fine teeth to prevent splintering.

Bamboo poles are extremely suitable for building things. We often see this at children's parties, company outings, such as team building activities, where people build a tower or airplane from bamboo poles. Elastic bands are used to connect the poles together.

Insect hotels are almost always filled with bamboo poles; these are usually Tonkin poles, which can be easily sawn to size. The internal diameter of the bamboo pole is important to ensure that insects will inhabit the hotel.

Bamboo poles are also used to mark fish traps, nets or shallow waters. The pole is extremely sturdy yet thin, making it easy to push into the ground and pull out again. The poles are available in many different lengths, so you can also place a bamboo pole in deep water.
