Bamboo Shield Thermo Exterior is a water-based oil that is perfect for protecting and maintaining bamboo exterior surfaces, such as decking and cladding. The product enhances the original dark colour of the bamboo planks, making it water and dirt repellent, and slows the growth of mould and algae.
Thanks to the UV protection, the surfaces last longer, while the anti slip value of R10 provides additional safety.
Bamboo Shield Thermo Exterior is suitable for both basic treatment and periodic maintenance of dark / black bamboo surfaces.

Tip: For brown / caramel coloured bamboo boards we recommend using Bamboo Shield Nano Exterior.

  1. Decking planks: Bamboo Shield Thermo Exterior provides a protective layer for bamboo decking boards, making them more resistant to water, dirt and UV radiation. This prevents greying and extends the life of the bamboo.
  2. Decks: This maintenance oil is perfect for bamboo decking, as it not only enhances the original dark colour and slows down the growth of mould and algae, but also provides an anti-slip value R10. This provides extra safety on wet and slippery surfaces.
  3. Facade cladding: Bamboo Shield Thermo Exterior protects bamboo cladding from the elements, such as rain, sunlight and UV radiation. This ensures that the facade remains beautiful for longer and requires less maintenance.
  4. Fences: For bamboo fences made of bamboo planks, this oil provides durable protection against moisture, dirt and mould, extending the life of the fence.

Protect and extend the life of your bamboo decking, patio planks, cladding planks or fences with Bamboo Shield Thermo Exterior oil. Follow these instructions for the best treatment.

  1. Preparation
    Clean old bamboo surfaces before oiling with the Bamboo Cleaning agent.
  2. Drying
    Let the bamboo boards dry for at least 24 hours, so that the bamboo moisture is a maximum of 17%. Remove any standing bamboo fibers with sandpaper grit 120.
  3. Circumstances
    Treat the bamboo surface only in dry weather, min. temp. 13°C and avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures.
  4. Stirring
    Stir the oil well before use.
  5. Application
    Apply an even thin layer of bamboo oil with a brush or special pads. Treat the end sides first. The oil has a creamy colour when it is in a liquid form. After a few minutes the bamboo surface has an oiled appearance because the water has evaporated.
  6. Remove excess oil
    After a maximum of 5 minutes, remove excess oil with clean cloths. Pay special attention to joints and grooves.
  7. Repeat
    Repeat steps 5 and 6 if the surface does not yet look saturated.
  8. Drying
    It takes 24 to 48 hours for the oil to harden completely, depending on weather conditions and temperature. The bamboo surface should not be exposed to water during this period.
  9. Extra Wear Resistant
    Once the bamboo is dry, it can be rubbed with a hand pad or a polishing machine for an extra wear-resistant surface.


Tip: Treat your bamboo decking, terrace or facade annually to protect it against aging in the long term.
