These bamboo sticks are ideal for horticultural applications, such as supporting various crops, flowers and climbing plants. With minimal taper in diameter over the length they provide constant and strong support. The thick wall of the sticks provides extra strength, allowing them to even be placed in the ground mechanically.

  • Support for vegetables, plants and flowers: Tonkin sticks (or plant stakes) are ideal for supporting crops such as tomatoes, rose bushes and other climbing plants. They ensure that your garden plants grow strong and healthy.
  • Guiding (espalier) trees: Place Tonkin sticks next to your espalier trees to keep them upright in the early stages. This helps to create a strong base, which will benefit the growth of your trees.
  • Making a plant climbing frame: With bamboo poles you can easily make a climbing frame for roses, climbing plants or bean plants. These plant supports are light, strong and offer excellent support for your garden.
  • Vegetable garden: Use bamboo plant stakes (sticks) to support your fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, beans, peas, cucumbers and grapes. They help your crops grow upright and prevent them from falling over.
  • Support for a bamboo hedge: Is your bamboo hedge sagging due to rain or snow? With strong Tonkin sticks you can create a stable frame to keep the bamboo in place. This looks natural and provides extra support.
  • Building with bamboo: Tonkin sticks are perfect for creative building projects such as team building or children's parties. With elastic or rope you can easily make bamboo structures such as towers or pyramids.
  • Building insect hotels: The hollow structure of Tonkin sticks makes them ideal for making insect hotels. Saw them into pieces and create a shelter for beneficial garden insects.
  • Making bamboo flutes: The strength and hollow structure of Tonkin sticks makes them suitable for making bamboo flutes, a traditional musical instrument for music lovers.
  • Bamboo fishing rods: Tonkin rods can be used as fishing rods for techniques such as float fishing, bottom fishing or fly fishing. Ideal for a light, flexible fishing rod.

Here are some ways you can work with and use the Tonkin sticks:

  • Cut: Easily saw the bamboo Tonkin stick(s) to the desired length with a fine-toothed saw. This ensures that you get a neat cut with minimal splintering.
  • Tie with rope: Use strong rope such as Manila or palm rope to tie the sticks firmly together for garden constructions or supports.
  • Secure with elastic: Elastic is ideal for quickly and flexibly attaching sticks to each other.
  • Drilling holes: Make small holes in the sticks to secure them with screws or wire.
  • Stain or oil: Treat the sticks with Bamboo Protector or Bamboo Booster Oil for extra protection or a nice finish.

These tips make bamboo Tonkin sticks versatile and easy to use for a variety of projects!

Bamboo plant poles are often used in a natural way, such as in agricultural horticulture, in allotments, as support for plants, for building and as an insect hotel. This means that treating bamboo is not necessary.

If you want to protect the Tonkin stick, you can do so with Bamboo Booster Oil. For the part of the bamboo that is placed in the ground, the choice can be made to treat it with Bamboo Ground Protector.

How Strong is Bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong and durable; it is often compared to steel because of its high tensile strength. This means bamboo can withstand great forces without breaking. This property makes it ideal for use in construction, furniture and other products that require robustness.
