No maintenance is required when using these bamboo sticks in the ground for plant support. If you want to extend the lifespan of the bamboo, then you can treat the part that goes into the ground with bamboo ground protector. However, this is not necessary, as the cost of treatment is higher than the price of the Tonkin sticks themselves.

Our advice: Use them untreated for the fastest, easiest installation.

Yes, for most types of climbing plants such as beans and tomatoes, stakes of 150-240 cm are most suitable, allowing the plant to grow upward well with stable support.

It is best to place the plant stake 15-25 cm deep into the ground. Please keep this in mind when ordering and account for this extra length. Press it down firmly and check that it is securely positioned in the ground.

Thinner bamboo sticks are somewhat flexible. Thicker tonkin sticks remain very straight and do not bend easily.

Untreated, Tonkin bamboo stakes last an average of 2-3 seasons when placed in the ground. Want them to last longer? Treat the part that goes into the ground with our Bamboo Ground Protector and the above-ground part with Bamboo Protector. This can significantly extend their lifespan.

Thinner Tonkin sticks (6-14 mm) are flexible enough to gently bend into an arch shape. This is easier if you soak the sticks in water for a few hours before bending, as this makes them even more flexible and reduces the chance of breaking.
