The Black Bamboo Pergola Java is made of natural black bamboo poles and has a luxurious appearance. Whilst the pergola looks chic, it is one of the more affordable pergolas on the market. The pergola is constructed from black bamboo poles with uprights (posts) of 7 to 10 cm thick and is available in various sizes. If desired, you can easily shorten the pergola to make it to size. Thanks to the uprights (posts) of 3 meters long, you have the option of placing them partly in the ground for extra stability, or sawing them to size and mounting them on a deck or terrace with pole holders. This makes the pergola suitable for any surface.

The natural dark colour of the bamboo poles immediately provides an atmospheric and luxurious seating or shaded area in your garden. With a bit of creativity you can also transform the pergola into a carport, canopy or sun protection. For a tropical look you can choose materials such as thatched roofs, reed fences, Esterilla panels or split bamboo fences. Do you want to make the pergola waterproof? Then corrugated sheets or roof tiles are a good option. You can then cover these with thatched roofs to maintain the tropical atmosphere. For extra privacy or to create a cozy atmosphere, you can attach bamboo screens to the sides of the pergola, creating an intimate seating area.

All our pergolas are delivered as a complete DIY kit, including clear instructions, mounting materials and a drill bit.

Extra service: To make installation even easier, the bamboo poles in the kit are carefully selected for diameter and wall thickness. This guarantees that you receive a sturdy, durable pergola that will last for years.

Tip: - Easily mount your pergola with our bamboo pole holder with a base plate on hard ground or in the ground with our pole holder ground pin.
- Tie black palm rope or manila rope over the mounting points for a beautiful, natural finish, this fits in perfectly with the bamboo.

  • Natural look: The black bamboo poles of the pergola are made of Java bamboo, straight from the plantation. The dark colour is completely natural, so colour variations are part of the natural look of the black bamboo pergola.
  • Carriers: With a diameter of 7-10 cm, the supports give the pergola a sturdy, robust appearance.
  • Beams & Inclined Braces: The beams and four 5-7 cm diagonal braces provide extra stability to the construction.
  • Posts: The 300 cm long posts have a diameter of 7-10 cm. This allows you to place the posts partly in the ground or to cut them to size and mount them on a terrace or deck with bamboo pole holders.
  • Gradient of the Bamboo Poles: Although Java bamboo has a minimal variation in diameter, there is always a difference between the thick and thin side. Take this into account with, for example, the posts so that you place the thick side downward.
  • Customisation options: The pergola is available in different sizes and can easily be shortened to fit your space.
  • Dismountable: The Black Bamboo Pergola Java is easy to disassemble, which means you can easily take it apart and reassemble it. Handy when moving or storing.
  • Tropical look: The natural dark colours of the black bamboo poles immediately create a warm and attractive, tropical atmosphere in your garden.
  • Cracks in Bamboo: Due to temperature fluctuations or changes in humidity, cracks can occur in the bamboo poles. This happens especially on warm, dry days. Cracks are a natural property of bamboo and only occur in lengthwise direction.
  • Discolouration of Bamboo: Bamboo discolours due to UV light and turns grey in the sun, as with many natural materials. This process can be slowed down considerably by treating the bamboo poles with Bamboo Protector.
  • Complete Building Kit: The pergola is supplied as a complete DIY kit, including clear instructions and all necessary mounting materials.

User Manual for the Black Bamboo Pergola Java

With your order, you will receive a clear manual by e-mail with step-by-step instructions for assembling your pergola. Below you will find a few extra tips:

General Tips:

  • Assemble the pergola with at least two people.
  • Required tools: measuring tape, pencil, 13 mm wrench, hacksaw, drill.

Mounting the Pergola:

You can mount the bamboo poles of the pergola in several ways, depending on the surface and your preference:

1. On a hard surface (such as tiles, wood, or concrete):
Use our bamboo pole holder with a base plate.

  • Drill 8 mm holes in the bamboo pole that align with the holes in the post holder.
  • Slide the pole over the post holder and secure it with the included bolts and nuts.
  • Make sure the pole sits approximately 2 cm above the steel plate. This prevents direct contact between the bamboo and the steel, which helps prevent rot.

2. In the ground:You have two options here:

  • Placing directly in the ground: First, treat the part of the bamboo pole that will be underground with our special black Bamboo Ground Protector. This protects against rot and extends the lifespan. Allow the coating to dry thoroughly, then place the pole at least 60 cm deep in the ground.
  • Using a bamboo post holder with a ground spike: This anchors the pole firmly in the ground without it having direct contact with the soil.

For both options, we recommend filling the hole around the pole or ground spike with cement for extra strength and stability.

Extra Tip:

You will need to cut the threaded rods of the post holders to the required length yourself. This can be done easily with a hacksaw or an angle grinder (not included).

This will ensure a sturdy and durable installation for your bamboo pergola! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

You can treat and protect both the bamboo underground and above ground.

When placing the bamboo stands in the ground, we advise you to first treat the part in the ground with Ground Protector.

Once the black pergola is standing or has turned grey, you can treat it with one of the maintenance products below.

  • Bamboo Booster: This specially developed natural oil slows down the greying process and increases the durability of the bamboo. Bamboo Booster penetrates deep into the dark Java bamboo, nourishes the material from within and protects against weather influences.
  • Bamboo Protector: If you prefer a varnish, choose Bamboo Protector. This varnish offers a sturdy protective layer that retains the natural dark appearance of the Java bamboo Pergola and provides long-term protection against greying and other weather influences.
  • Bamboo Renovator Black: When your black bamboo Pergola Java no longer has its original dark colour after cleaning, you can renovate it with Bamboo Renovator Black. The dark pigment in the varnish gives it back its original black bamboo colour.
  • Bamboo Cleaner: A powerful bamboo degreaser and cleaner that removes scales, mould and dirt from all types of bamboo, restoring the original beauty of your bamboo products.

Why Maintenance is Important

Regular maintenance with the right products helps extend the life of the Black Java Bamboo Pergola and ensures that it looks beautiful every year.

A Masterful Plant

How Strong is Bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong and durable; it is often compared to steel because of its high tensile strength. This means that bamboo can withstand great forces without breaking. This property makes it ideal for applications in construction, furniture, and other products that require robustness.
