The 100 x 70 cm thatched roof is made of palm leaves that are firmly mounted on strong bamboo slats, which makes the product 100% natural. During the production process, the palm leaves are first boiled and then dried in the sun before being attached to the bamboo slats.

This thatched roof is easy to shorten, so that it always fits your space perfectly. It is ideal for use as a tropical roof on canopies, pergolas, parasols and tiki bars. It can also be used to cover walls or ceilings for events and festivals.

For indoor use, we recommend impregnating thatched roofs for extra fire resistance.

Fixing the Thatched Roofs

  1. Attach to the surface: Attach the bamboo slats that go through the palm leaves to the flat surface or to the (bamboo) roof trusses using screws, zip ties (cable ties), or binding wires.
  2. Create Overlap:
For decorative use: Place the thatched roofs on top of each other so that there is approximately 30 to 35 cm overlap between the bamboo slats.
    This is 3 thatched roofs of 100 x 70 per m2.
For waterproof covering: This is possible if there is enough slope in the roof. Use 5 thatched roofs per m2 or an overlap of 20 cm. The closer the thatched roofs overlap, the better they protect against sun, rain and wind.
  3. Shorten the Length: Cut the bamboo slats with a saw to shorten the thatched roofs to the desired length.
  4. Shortening the palm leaves: Cut the leaves with scissors to shape the palm leaves into the desired shape.

For indoor use: When used indoors, it is important to treat the thatched roofs with a fire retardant spray for optimum fire safety.

Tip: Extend the Lifespan

To extend the life of your thatched roofs, you can mount bamboo slats or bamboo Tonkin sticks over the thatched roofs. This ensures a firm mounting and minimizes the chance of them blowing loose or breaking.

For more information and inspiration, please contact us or visit our showroom and warehouse in Beverwijk.

To extend the life of palm leaf thatched roofs, proper maintenance is important. Check regularly for damage and dirt. Remove leaves, branches and other debris that can accumulate on the roof, as this can retain water and promote mould.

For additional protection against the elements and pests, you may consider impregnating the thatched roofs with a suitable product every few years.

If the thatched roofs are used indoors, it is important to treat them with a fire retardant spray. This contributes to fire safety and ensures that the thatched roofs remain in good condition.

By carrying out regular maintenance, you can enjoy the beautiful tropical appearance and functionality of your thatched roof for longer.

A Masterful Plant

How Strong is Bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong and durable; it is often compared to steel because of its high tensile strength. This means that bamboo can withstand great forces without breaking. This property makes it ideal for applications in construction, furniture, and other products that require robustness.
